Co-op Work Permit

  • What is a co-op work permit?

    A co-op work permit is a mandatory document for international students to use during their co-op/internship/placement period. It allows international students to work full-time during regular academic terms. The co-op work permit application is FREE!

    You MUST have your co-op work permit prior to starting your co-op work term.

    Email uhip@uoit.ca with the following information to ensure you are eligible, enrolled, and charged the appropriate fees for the University Health Insurance Plan (UhIP):

    1. Full name
    2. Student number
    3. Information on any eligible dependents you have
  • When can you apply for a co-op work permit?

    You can apply for your co-op work permit:

    1. Once you have been accepted to the co-op program prior to your work term. Do not wait until you have a job offer OR
    2. You can apply for your study permit extension and co-op work permit together

    You MUST have your co-op work permit prior to starting your co-op work term.

  • What documents do you need for a co-op work permit?
    • Valid study permit
    • Valid passport
    • Digital photo (for online applications)
    • Co-op enrollment letter 
    • IMM 5710 form – Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker
