How do I get nominated for an exchange at your university?
If you are interested in doing an exchange at our university, you must be nominated by your home institution before you apply to study here. When the nomination has been accepted, you will be sent information about the application process.

Is an English language proficiency test required for an exchange?
An English language proficiency test is not required. Partner schools will nominate candidates for exchange only if they meet Ontario Tech's English language proficiency requirements. Visit the applicable link below depending on the level of course(s) you intend to complete on exchange.

What do I do once I have been nominated?
Once you are nominated, complete the online application form. For undergraduate students, make sure you select Incoming Exchange Student.
The following documents are required at the time of application:
- Current and past transcripts
- A copy of your passport
- A letter of recommendation from your home university indicating you have been approved for the exchange and meet Ontario Tech's minimum English language proficiency requirements

How long does it take to get an acceptance letter?
Acceptance letters for undergraduate exchange students are generally sent out in May or June. Graduate exchange admissions decisions are normally made in July.

Do I need to accept my offer?
Once you have received your acceptance letter, you should confirm your acceptance as indicated the email you receive with your Letter of Acceptance (Offer of Admission for graduate exchange students). You should also confirm your acceptance with your home institution.

Do inbound exchange students pay fees?
As an inbound exchange student you are required to pay the following fees to Ontario Tech University for the semester(s) that you are here:
- University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)
- U-Pass for local transportation
Costs for the current academic year are posted on the Ancillary fees page. *Fees are subject to change every year.

How do I pay the fees I owe?
Fees are posted on MyOntarioTech. Once you have confirmed how much you owe, you can choose any of our accepted payment options. Popular options for exchange students are Flywire and PayMyTuition.

Do I need to buy health insurance?
All Ontario Tech students are required to have health insurance while they study at Ontario Tech. Since exchange students do not qualify for provincial health insurance, they are required to have the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). You are welcome to buy additional health insurance, but you must still be enrolled in UHIP.

Do I need a study permit?
Depending on the length of your studies in Canada, you may be required to have a study permit. Please visit our Immigration information for inbound exchange page for further information.

Can I have access to the Campus Recreation Centre?
Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) memberships are available for exchange students at no additional charge.
To activate your membership, please visit the front counter of the CRWC during hours of operation. You will need to present your digital Ontario Tech Ucard to CRWC staff to have your membership activated. Once activated, your digital card will be your access to the facility. Please note: Your membership needs to be renewed on a monthly basis.
Open gym time can be viewed in the Campus Recreation Mobile App which is available in the App Store or Play Store. Once downloaded, you will log in with your student ID number and your campus network password. Select Gym Schedule and you can view what activities are available in the gymnasiums.

When can I register for courses?
Registration start dates for undergraduate exchange students can be found on the Office of the Registrar website. Approved undergraduate students must receive a Letter of Acceptance before having access to register in courses. Approved graduate-level courses are registered on the exchange students' behalf.

How can I get more information about doing an exchange at your university?

How can I get a transcript?
You can download your transcript online in MyOntarioTech and/or request an official transcript.
