Summer and other short-term exchange programs

Ontario Tech University has many opportunities for students who are interested in gaining an international learning experience. 

Depending on the short-term exchange program and type of partnership with Ontario Tech, some exchanges are not-for-credit and you must apply to the host institution directly. If an exchange program is for-credit, students must follow all steps listed on the Outbound Exchange page.

Regardless of the exchange program, all students going on international mobility programs—exchange, summer program, internship, research, conference, etc.—are required to complete the pre-departure form and attend a pre-departure session before they leave. Visit our Pre-Departure Sessions page to fill out the form and register for a session.

  • 2027 IAU UNESCO Summer Peace and Diplomacy Program
     📅 Date: July 4 to 17, 2027 
    📍 Istanbul, Turkey

    Powered by the STAR Scholars Network, this two-week international program offers participants an enriching combination of academic learning, practical training, intercultural exchange and cultural exploration in the vibrant city of Istanbul. The program is specifically designed to help participants develop essential skills in international relations, policy analysis, global citizenship, intercultural communication, negotiation and diplomacy.

    Why Should Students Participate?

    • Academic Enrichment: Participants attend intensive lectures and discussions on peace education, international relations, foreign policy, international organizations, public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy.
    • Practical Learning: Students strengthen their public speaking, negotiation, research, critical-thinking and resolution-writing skills through interactive workshops and Model United Nations training.
    • Intercultural Competence: Participants develop the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate and collaborate effectively across cultures.
    • International Networking: Students connect with academics, professionals and fellow participants from diverse countries and backgrounds.
    • Cultural Exploration: Historical Peninsula and Bosphorus tours allow participants to discover Istanbul’s cultural heritage while strengthening intercultural dialogue.

    Total program fee is 1,190 USD, including:

    • 13 nights of shared accommodation

    Please note that airfare, travel and health insurance, airport transfers and optional daily cultural activities are not included in the program fee.

  • 2027 Bordeaux Montaigne University's International Winter School
     📅 Dates: February 14 to 27, 2027
    📍 Location: Bordeaux Montaigne University
    Highlights:  
    • Academic courses on French culture, geography, history, literature, and cinema, all taught in English.
    • French language courses for all proficiency levels, including complete beginners.
    • A certificate of participation and 3 ECTS credits upon completion.

    The program also features a variety of cultural and social activities, including museum visits, cultural workshops, and a field trip to the picturesque village of Saint-Émilion or Arcachon Bay.

    The UBM International Winter School is ideal for students interested in exploring French language and culture while enjoying an immersive international experience in the vibrant city of Bordeaux.

    Partner Fee: €1,500  

    The reduced partner rate includes:

    • Participation in all academic and French language courses
    • Course materials and accommodation for 13 nights
    • Welcome and farewell ceremonies
    • Admission to all scheduled cultural activities and museum visits

  • 2027 International Summer School on Smart Cities - Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA)
    2027 International Summer School on Smart Cities 🌆

    📍 Venue: Daxing Campus, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (BUCEA)

    Highlights:
    • Lectures by global scholars on AI urban management, green architecture & sustainable development

    💰 Program Fee:
    RMB 6,000 per person
    RMB 4,000 per person for BUCEA partners (delegation of 5+ students)

  • School of Engineering at Tohoku University, Japan
    Tohoku University "TIE" Summer Program 2026 (Technology Innovation Entrepreneurship), a four-week program hosted by the School of Engineering.

    Dates: June 29 to July 24

    Program overview

    This program focuses on Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship, where students will:

    • Identify real-world challenges in a digital society
    • Develop solutions using digital tools or technologies and entrepreneurial approaches
    • Build business models and prototypes
    • Present their ideas in a final pitch

    The program consists of lectures on digital technologies and entrepreneurship, group-based project work, Japanese language classes, as well as cultural experiences, field trips, and social activities organized by Tohoku University students.

     Note: 

    Students intending to receive academic credits toward their program of study at Ontario Tech must begin the appropriate application process before committing to this summer program.

    Program fee - 200,000 JPY per participant (Accommodation and travel costs are not included)

  • Summer Programme 2027 - Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
    UKM Summer Programme - details to come

    This programme offers participants the opportunity to:

    • Engage in interactive academic sessions led by experienced UKM faculty members
    • Experience Malaysia’s diverse culture through curated field trips and cultural activities
    • Build global networks with students from various international institutions
    • Enhance intercultural competencies and global perspectives

  • Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Germany
    Frankfurt Summer Universities

    2026 Subject courses for reference:

    All our summer programs are worth ECTS points. The programs are designed for international students and taught entirely in English.

    Frankfurt Summer Universities also offers fun extracurricular activities for students to participate in, as well as field trips to political, financial, and architectural sites. The city is our classroom!

    Program fee includes:

    • two weeks of academic courses

    • Public transportation within Frankfurt for the duration of the program

  • University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria
    International Days in Social Work – IDSW 2027

    A week full of workshops, site visits to social organizations and various cultural activities. This event is for social work and related programs only.

    International Summer Academy in Engineering for Women (ISAE4W)

    Dates: July 

    Target group:  undergraduate female students in Engineering (18 to 25 years)

    What is this about? Intensive, two-and-a-half-week program combines theory with hands-on practical experience in engineering and natural sciences. In addition to knowledge transfer in these fields, social, cross-cultural and gender aspects are covered and discussed during lectures and workshops.

    Venue: University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, School of Engineering (Wels Campus) with selected workshops off campus

    Pécs Summer School 2027 

    The University of Pécs in Hungary offers two-week summer schools in various disciplines in July 2027, including:

    Dates: June 26 to July 25 (including arrival and departure days).

    This four-week credit-bearing programme gives international students an opportunity to study abroad in one of Sweden’s fastest growing cities, Linköping. With its innovative university and great student activities you will have the best experience of your life!

    Tuition
    • For Ontario Tech students the Summer Academy is tuition-free. Alongside lectures and coursework, a variety of social activities and a fun program will be offered, organized by our student hosts.

    Housing tuition
