If you are a current student travelling outside Canada, there are specific documents you need to have with you to re-enter.
When travelling outside Canada as an international student, it's important to be prepared for your return. More information can be found on the IRCC website.
Returning international students
- A valid travel document, such as a passport.
- A valid study permit, unless you don’t need one
- A valid Temporary Resident visa (also referred to as a Canadian entry visa), Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), green card (or equivalent official proof of U.S. status) or another valid travel document. - Find out if you need a visa.
- Valid verification of enrolment letter.
- Medical Exam, if required - If you've been in a designated country for more than 6 months in the past year, are a medical student or will work in jobs which require a medical exam, bring a copy of your medical exam ('e-medical') completed within 12 months before travelling.
- Proof of adequate funds for your stay in Canada. Learn more about proof of financial support.
- Documentation for your family - If your family is joining you to Canada, ensure they have the right documentation before entering Canada.
Important: Always carry these documents with you. Do not put them in your checked luggage.
